Class Overview: Open Studio: Bring Your Own Oil Painting Project 

This class provides a flexible environment for artists to work on their own oil painting projects with individualized support. You’ll receive guidance tailored to your needs, whether you're developing a specific piece or exploring a new technique. Bring your reference images, and I’ll offer feedback, as well as occasional demonstrations on oil painting materials and techniques. If you have a direction you want to explore, reach out in advance, and Ann will prepare an exercise to help you get started. Spontaneous suggestions and adjustments are welcome!

What Students Will Learn:

• How to refine their oil painting techniques through personalized critique.
• Best practices for handling oil painting materials and tools.
• Strategies for achieving their specific artistic goals.

Class Availability: 

In person classes are available on Saturdays from 10-12:30pm.  You select what days you can attend and identify whether you'll be online or in person when scheduling your class.

Meet Your Oil Painting Instructors

Ann Steverson's Biography

Ann Moeller Steverson is an oil painter known for her mood-filled figures, portraits, and still life’s. Her contemporary work bridges classical beauty with the modern painting practices of today. She has been awarded the honor of the Bold Brush Award, a distinction an artist may achieve only once in their lifetime. Ann’s work has recently been selected as a finalist in the Art Renewal Center, been featured in several Oil Painters of America exhibits. She has been awarded by the National Acrylic & Oil Painters Society and Portrait Society of America.

In 2015, Ann partnered with two other artists to help co-found Protege Atelier, where she paints, teaches, and assists in bringing master artist workshops to Huntsville. Steverson is also the inventor and founder of Venus Copper Panels, now known as Artefex Copper Panels, the first CCM (copper composite material) artist panel. 

A native of Madison, Alabama, Ann began painting in oils at the University of Montevallo in 1999. She graduated in 2002 from the University of Alabama in Huntsville, completing a B.A. with a Fine Arts Concentration. Ann then acquired a Master of Art Education from Alabama A&M University in Normal, Alabama.

Ann exhibits her work nationally and internationally and soon will have several of her works included in the Peregrine Collection, via which they will be archived on the moon. 

Ann Moeller has been painting for over 20 years, and she's excited to share her knowledge with students of all levels.

Stephanie Weaver's Biography

Stephanie Weaver is an accomplished oil painter based in Huntsville, Alabama, known for her vibrant, expressive works that capture the beauty of everyday moments. With a keen eye for color and light, she brings landscapes, pet portraits, and still lifes to life, blending realism with a touch of whimsy. As the owner of Huntsville Art Supplies, Stephanie is deeply engaged in the local art community, teaching workshops and fostering creativity through her store and studio events. Her passion for oil painting shines in every brushstroke, inviting viewers to see the world through her joyful, artistic lens.
